Why are people our age not aware of what is happening in our own country? Everyone seems to think that this kind of stuff only happens in foreign countries.
How could something this bad happen over a golf course extension? Was the golf course just an excuse to try to hurt the Mohawk people because of racism?
why so violent? what happened in the first nations and europeans past that caused all this because it sure wasn't all about a golf course on what the FN thought was there land.
i think that this was all due to the fact of what happened in the first nations and eurepeans past that caused everyone to act so violently. clearly, we dont know what happened but it would be great to figure out for further research. im thinking its about a racism issue. not about buliding an 18-hole golf course. i would also like to know how long this racism issue has been going on for? katherine. everyone wish ian a happy birthday tomorrow!
What I really want to know is what where each sides opinions on the crisis, because I think if the clip gave us that it would help myself and probably alot of other people understand what exactly was going on in Oka.
Other than that I agree that this might lead back to past conflicts involving the government and First Nations.
I think that both sides caused this conflict,they both show reasons for doing such a harm to each other. But why so violently? There were more reasons to explain the cause of this chrisis than expanding a golf course. Racism, or even for poor treatment could have been the reason for this to happen. Why didn't any of the groups try to prevent this conflict from happening??? What was the cause of the Oka chrisis???
From watching this video clip, I've come to the conclusion that it is mainly about racism towards the First Nations. After watching it several times, the line that struck me to be most powerful was "It's not our fault that they don't have anything to eat, it's their fault." Why would it be their fault? If so, why would they choose that life for them? And who is "they", anyway???
I think there is some element of racism that has not yet been solved from past history between the first nations and the Canadian government. But i would like to know what led both groups to using violence in attempting to solve their conflicts.
are the french really that obsessed with golf that they have to throw rocks at rondom, innocent people becuase they want 18 holes not 9!? there has to be more to it but what? why were the french so racist towards the first nations people? and why did it take so long for the Canadian government to get involved, why did they wait until everything got so out of control to step in?
as much as i dislike history, why would the goverment throw rocks???
but i found out some other information about how the goverment wasnt supposed to fight back at the first nation people and the first nations abused the fact of that by hitting the goverment people that werent supposed to fight back
i think thats totally insane for them to do that since we made the agreements with them to have our land
i dont know whos side to take though because there must have been resons for the goverment to bring in tanks etc.
My inference based on the clip is that this conflict is not only going on between the First Nations and the Quebecquois but as well as with the Canadian Government. I believe this is true because of the demonstration the Quebecquois held against their prime minister for not taking responsibility over the situation. The First Nations are obviously upset with the Government as the Government has allowed canadians to build golf courses on "their" land. What are the other causes of this conflict?
In conclusion, I feel the Government aswell as the Quebecquois have shown a great deal of racism towards the First Nations. A man had said "It is not our fault if they don't have anything to eat, it's their fault" I feel what this Canadaian has said shows a great deal of racism towards First Nations.
Nature is nature it does nat need to be a tree to be called nature.Why did the people building the golf coruse care that it had to be a tree? When nature is in the flowers we see and the bushs we plant?It surprised me that the goverment brought in the tanks and guns.Why? What was the cause of all of this in Oka?
What I don't get is why the Canadian Government is making such a big deal over a golf corse. I mean, wouldn't it be easier just to build it on a different area of land???
No one has talked about the money. It may not be all about the golf, but it must be about financial gains somewhere and I'm guessing it is not going into the FNs pockets.
